In 2019 I was awarded a two week residency in the workshop of the glass artist Colin Reid.
Arboreal Spirit (pair) is part of a body of work completed during the residency. The two tree forms were inspired by energy I saw and sensed in tree saplings that had grown and broken through their guards. The original forms were made using stoneware clay and impressed with grills forged and riveted together in my workshop. They were then cast using a pale yellow Borosilicate glass
Once cast the pieces have been sandblasted and in some areas polished. These newly learnt polishing techniques from the residency have marked a significant point in the development of my practice. Now able to break through the sandblasted glass surface I can find reflected light and explore the vibrant inner life of the cast form.
